When Omeed moved to the U.S. in the late 1980’s, his passion for calligraphy did not waiver, but instead grew stronger under the challenges of a new environment. With the solid foundation gained while studying with professional teachers, Omeed now entered into a time of intense personal study. The relative isolation from other Persian cultural influences may have discouraged some artists, but it served to produce a deeper commitment in Omeed to bring this art to the people around him.
Omeed’s passion for the artform of calligraphy is evident in his discipline to develop his art. After working 12 to 15 hours a day running a successful business, Omeed often heads for his studio and works on his art until the early morning hours. However, Omeed’s passion for the message of art is most evident when he speaks. He believes in the ability of art to connect human souls.

It may come as a surprise to find a Persian calligrapher in the state of Wyoming, but it has turned out to be a place where Omeed finds inspiration in the expanses of untamed land and sky, and perhaps no better place could be found to test Omeed’s belief in the power of art. Here, where knowledge of calligraphy, Persian art or even the Persian language is scarce at best, this belief has been confirmed. People viewing his art are drawn by its rhythmic beauty. While they don’t understand its literal meaning, they seem to understand its message. This ability for humans to recognize grace and beauty is at the core of Omeed’s artistic expression.
Omeed explains, “Art transcends language and cultural barriers because it creates a response on a deeper level. At this deeper level all humans speak the same language.” Omeed believes that everyone can recognize and reflect beauty, harmony and grace because“This is what we were designed to do.”
While Omeed creates Persian calligraphy, he believes that all art forms, when carried out at the highest level, are the same. “Anything done with love and focus can become art, whether it is painting, music, taking care of children or gardening.” He believes that focusing on what is beautiful around us creates an appreciation and simplicity of life. “As we return to simplicity, life becomes simple.”
